Basics of Prompting

Writing good prompts is the key to generating amazing images. This guide will teach you the fundamentals.

What is a Prompt?

A prompt is a text description that tells the AI what image you want to create. The more detailed and specific your prompt, the better the results.

Prompt Structure

A good prompt typically includes:

  1. Subject - What's the main focus?
  2. Details - Physical characteristics, clothing, expressions
  3. Environment - Background, setting, atmosphere
  4. Style - Art style, quality modifiers

Example

1girl, long silver hair, blue eyes, smiling,
wearing white dress, standing in cherry blossom garden,
soft lighting, anime style, high quality, detailed

Keywords and Tags

Use comma-separated tags to describe your image:

  • Quality tags: masterpiece, best quality, highly detailed
  • Style tags: anime, realistic, oil painting
  • Composition: close-up, full body, portrait

Weighting and Emphasis

Emphasize important elements using:

  • Parentheses: (blue hair) - slight emphasis
  • Multiple parentheses: ((glowing eyes)) - stronger emphasis
  • Square brackets: [background] - de-emphasize

Negative Prompts

Use negative prompts to exclude unwanted elements:

Negative: ugly, blurry, low quality, watermark, text,
deformed hands, extra fingers

Common Mistakes

❌ Too vague: "a girl" ✅ Specific: "1girl, long red hair, green eyes, wearing school uniform"

❌ Too many concepts: "girl and boy and dog and cat in city and forest" ✅ Focused: "1girl with pet dog in urban park"

Advanced Techniques

  • Prompt mixing: Combine multiple concepts smoothly
  • Sampling methods: Different samplers produce different styles
  • CFG Scale: Controls how closely the AI follows your prompt
  • Steps: More steps = more refined details
